Oct 21st - Wed of our Trip

Well it is Wed AM and I woke about 6:00 AM.. we are now on the Southern tip of Lake Okeechobee. This is definatley a town for Fishermen. This area is filled with "fish camps" and RV Parks. Many of the RV Parks have permanent residents and not the type of places I would want to stay~ I have learned that the size of the Ad and the Website do NOT always turn out to be true when you visit these parks in person.

We found a nice park below the lake -South Bay RV Campground - 100 Levee Rd, South Bay, FL 33493 - PH 561-992--9045.

It is run by Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation. this park is very nice has cement pads, W/E/S and grills at each site. it has fire pits in various locations around the sites where you can gather around the fire at night and roast marshmellows. There is a sign however warning : Alligators are present! I have seen a few when we went to Kennedy Air Space Center and a few on the side of the road but none here yet.

Last night we drove the 110 miles around this park only to find you cannot see the Lake itself as they have constructed Levees all around the Lake which prevents viewing it from the main roads, you have to get out on a boat from one of the docks to view the entire lake. Ron Martin's famous "Fish Camp" is here and has docks and three motels where visitors can stay when taking his guided tours. I hear that this lake has some of the largest Bass around! I think this will be a day I stay at the campground and rest!
